Job description

Finance 

• Assist with the preparation of Annual Budget 
• Prepare monthly analysis of expense and revenue and compare to budget, explaining trend and variances
• Responsible for the preparation of monthly Management accounts 
• Posting and verification of transactions into the accounting system.
• Develop a system for compliance with Donor regulations.
• Support grant financial close-out process and documentation review
• Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and submission of all internal and external financial reports  and budgets proposals

• Prepare the annual financial statements

Tax

• Assist with preparation of federal & state income and franchise tax returns and payments
• Assist with preparation of responses to various tax audits
• Assist with responses to notices regarding federal and state tax issue
• Assist with preparation of income tax provision and tax account reconciliation

 
Audit

• Provide support to auditors during audit of the annual financial statements
• Responsible for 100% completion and preparation of working papers required in the annual audit.
• Carry out the necessary post-audit adjustment required on the financial statements

Photo: Man arrested for stealing 7-month-old baby in Lagos

26 year old Happniess Umaru, has been arrested by the Lagos state police command for allegedly stealing a 7 month old baby at the Ijora area of Lagos state on March 16th.

According to a report by Vanguard, Umaru was intercepted by some police officers patrolling Eric Moore road Surulere. When he was questioned, Umaru first lied that he was the father of the boy but after much interrogation, he confessed to have picked up the baby inside a bush at Ijora Railway where he had gone to answer the call of nature.

When the police took him to the area where he took the child, they met with the child's mother, Patricia Victor who said she has been searching for her son since. Narrating how her baby boy disappeared, she said

“I laid my seven months old baby (Favour Victor) on the bed inside my house at about 8p.m., to buy food for my son. By the time I returned with the food for my older son, my baby had disappeared. I raised alarm and neighbours joined me in the search all thorough the night, but we did not find him. I did not know that police officers had arrested the man who stole my baby. Luckily, when they came the next day to investigate the case, they located me.”

Libya Coast Guard foil attempt to traffic 127 illegal African migrants to Europe

The General Staff Coast Guard, in cooperation with Zuwara Security Chamber on Tuesday, March 15, foiled an attempt to sail an inflatable boat filled with 127 illegal African immigrants of different nationalities from the Libyan coast, Sabratha beach, to Europe. The Coast Guard staff acting on intelligence coming from the operations apparatus of the Coast Guard and the ports security department in Zuwara, managed to intercept the boat at 10 miles to the northeast of Zuwara city.

 The immigrants and the boat were taken to the port where they given medical check up by the Libyan Red Crescent, Zuwara branch. They were later sent to the Passports Investigation Center.

Boko Haram suicide bombers attack Muslim praying ground in Maiduguri, kill 25

25 people were reportedly killed while 17 others were seriously injured after a suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber attacked a Muslim praying ground in Umurari village on the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno state this morning. The dead bodies have been evacuated from the scene while those injured have been taken to the government hospital for treatment. Security officers are working to restore calm to the area.
